Every gift that supports the QEII Hospital Foundation is an act of generosity regardless of size or type. All gifts are appreciated and acknowledged, as each gift will improve the health and lives of others. That is why the QEII Hospital Foundation realizes and expresses its gratitude to those who have committed themselves to creating a better future for the QEII Hospital Foundation through a planned gift. Each gift has value in advancing the mission and work of the QEII Hospital to create a healthier community for us all.
Over the years, many donors have given generously of their time and resources, enabling the QEII Hospital Foundation to enhance patient care at the QEII Hospital. That relationship can be continued in perpetuity by a bequest or other gift that is endowed in the donor’s name, the family name or honours the memory of a friend or loved one. This is the ultimate expression of a person’s values and can profoundly change the lives of future beneficiaries. We are proud to recognize these donors through the QEII Hospital Foundation’s Heritage Society.
Many individuals share generously with the QEII Hospital Foundation throughout their lifetimes.
We offer several giving options to meet your needs. Your gift of cash, cheque or money order is the simplest way to give to the Foundation. Cash gifts will be accepted for any purposes consistent with the Hospital’s mission and objectives.
A planned gift can be expressed in various ways such as giving a Bequest, Charitable Life Insurance, Publicly Traded Stock Options, Endowment Funds, Beneficiary of RRSP or RRIF’s, and Gifts of Real Estate.
Bequests
If you are contemplating a major change in your current Will, or if you are about to have a Will drafted, a bequest to QEII Hospital Foundation is a simple inclusion. If you now have a Will, but are contemplating a bequest to QEII Hospital Foundation, the addition of a codicil should be discussed with your lawyer.
Gifts of Life Insurance
Consider This:

Publicly Traded Stock Options (Gifts of Securities)
Donations of publicly traded securities to registered charities are 100% free of capital gains taxes!
The federal government has implemented new tax rules making it very attractive to donate publicly-traded securities that have appreciated in value. When you donate securities directly to the QEII Hospital Foundation, you do not pay the capital gains tax you would pay if you sold them and kept the proceeds. A donation receipt is issued for the full market value of the securities at the close of the date of the transfer.

The tax credit system provides advantages to taxpayers in every province, as the tax credit rate is typically higher than the average rate paid by the taxpayer. As mentioned, Alberta is unique among provinces for having a higher tax credit rate, which increases the benefit for giving.
The average tax rate of an Albertan with $60,000 in taxable income is 32% or $320 on $1000 in income. Therefore, the 50% tax credit worth $500 could be used against other income to claim the balance of $180 in tax savings from the $1000 gift.

Endowment Funds
Endowment funds are gifts to the QEII Hospital Foundation where the principal amount is invested and only the annual interest income is used. The principle itself is not spent and continues to generate income annually to provide needed health care resources year after year. Large endowments can be named in honour of your family or yourself.
Every gift made to the QEII Hospital Foundation is used to help advance the QEII Hospital as a centre for excellence in patient care. We are often asked what donors can do to help ensure that funding is always available to maintain this standard of excellence.
By creating an established fund (endowment) at the QEII Hospital Foundation, your gift will help for years to come. The principle is invested, and the accrued interest is used to fund special projects and high priority needs at the QEII Hospital.
Unless otherwise directed, the fund is named for the donor. A written trust agreement, called the “Terms of Reference,” confirms the purpose of the fund. Through a trust agreement signed by yourself and the Foundation you may advise how the endowment income is to be used.
All Foundation restricted funds are administered in accordance with QEII Hospital Foundation investment policies. Foundation investments are professionally managed to ensure the security of the principle, and to maximize the rate of return. We conduct an annual audit each year to ensure this.
Endowments create a legacy that gives recognition to the donor or provides a tribute to a loved one or special person. The QEII Hospital Foundation appreciates all donations given to endowments and restricted funds, and the stable source of support that they provide.
Beneficiary of RRSP & RRIF
You may choose to make the QEII Hospital Foundation the beneficiary of either your RRSP or your RRIF or to direct some of the income from either to the Foundation during your lifetime or in your will.
Gifts of Real Estate
If resale is permitted, the QEII Hospital Foundation would be pleased to consider your gift of real estate. The charitable deduction would be based on the appraised fair market value of the property.
