Dr. Phillip Sunohara Memorial Surgical Scholarship Fund

The Queen Elizabeth II Hospital Foundation will be awarding scholarships up to $15,000 to assist physicians in their pursuit of surgical specialist education and training. 

The committee will award these scholarships to physicians engaged in a specialist field, who upon completion of their training will practice within Alberta Health Services. 

Applications will be prioritized based on the following field of study:

  1. Orthopaedics and orthopaedic sub specialties,
  2. General Surgery,
  3. Other surgical fields including but not limited to urology, ophthalmology, gynaecology, plastics, ENT etc. Applicants in these areas will be prioritized based on the region’s identified specialist need.
  4. General Practitioner Surgery
  5. Anaesthesia
  6. General Practitioner Anaesthesia

Criteria:

  • Fulfill an identified need within Alberta Health Services;
  • Be prepared to sign a return for service agreement with Alberta Health Services for one year, (if the region does not have a need for the applicant upon completion of their program, the return for service agreement may be waived);
  • Demonstrate commitment and dedication to his/her work and education;
  • Be a high performer;
  • Show growth potential in the chosen specialty;
  • Provide a detailed budget to identify financial need;

A cover letter, curriculum or course outline, two letters of reference and supporting documents which set out in detail how the applicant meets the above criteria must be submitted to the QEII Hospital Foundation by April 30, 2012 to the address below.
