In the month since their move in the early morning hours on March 20, 2012, the Emergency Department has settled into the fully renovated space after a year in a temporary location.   The renovations included increasing the number of trauma bays from two to four, an additional endoscopy suite and a dedicated intravenous therapy area.  There are also 21 stretchers and a five-bed clinical decision unit for patients who are being cared for, but don’t need formal admission.

The QEII Hospital Foundation was proud to support the expansion of the Emergency Department with the purchase of equipment for the four trauma bays and the ambulatory care treatment area.  The Foundation thanks all of the donors who made possible their contribution of $262, 125, towards the project.

The latest exhibition to be installed in the Courtyard Gallery is a series of quilts made by “Faye Oszli”.   This name may sound familiar to many of you because Faye used to manage the Gift Shop here at the Hospital.   Faye started her passion with quilts some 15 years ago.   She went on to even open a quilt shop with her sister.   Since moving to Grande Prairie a few years ago she may not have the shop any more but she still quilts as often as she can.

This exhibition will be up until the end of April.

A huge thank you to the County of Grande Prairie Fire Services for their support in making the 2011 Festival of Trees a success this past year.  Their overwhelming commitment of 1100 volunteer hours of assistance, (wow, that’s over 45 days in less than a week!!!) setting up and taking down the venues for the event was truly remarkable and appreciated by not only the QEII Hospital Foundation, but by the thousands of attendees of the event.  We look forward to working with this great organization again next year for the 2012 Festival of Trees.

Small Aeropostale Teddy Bears Dec.11 Jaxon

The smile on Jaxon’s face said it all as Amanda Pierson and Stephanie Mare presented him with one of the many teddy bears donated to the QEII Hospital by Aéropostle.  Thanks to the thoughtful donation, over $1400 in teddy bears will make it into the arms of children receiving care at the QEII.  Liah and Liam, new arrivals to the world, have their very first newfound friends to watch over them as they dream.
